Ahmed Alwani Joins ILDC Chaplaincy Board
March 2004 - Ahmed Alwani, Executive Dean of The Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences joined the Chaplaincy Board of the Islamic Society of North America's Leadership Development Center (ILDC). The ISNA Chaplaincy Board now consists of nine members: Muhammad Nur Abdullah, President of ISNA; Ingrid Mattson, Vice President of ISNA and Professor of Islamic Studies at Hartford Seminary; Yahya Hendi, Chaplain at Georgetown University; Ihsan Bagby; Chaplain (MAJ) Abdul Rashid Muhammad, USA, first Muslim to become a chaplain in the U.S. military; Mumina Kowalski, Muslim Chaplain at the state correctional facility at Muncy; Ishaq Abdul Hafiz, Muslim Chaplain at a correctional facilities in California; Dr. Louay Safi, Director of the ISNA Leadership Development Center and Islamic endorser; and Ahmed Alwani.
Prior to 2004, Ahmed Alwani served for five years as the Islamic Endorser for ISNA. As a board member, Mr. Alwani will assist ISNA's Leadership Development Center with issues related to chaplaincy and also with broader issues, such as setting standards for mosques and imams in America.
