Middle Eastern Scholars Visit GSISS
November 27th, 2002 - GSISS received a group of Middle Eastern Scholars touring the country as part of the International Visitors "Teaching Middle Eastern History and Politics in the U.S.: Curriculum Development" program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. The group included scholars from King Faisal University in Chad; the University of Algiers; Al-Quds Open University in the West Bank; and King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. GSISS faculty discussed with the scholars methods of curriculum development, giving them examples of different syllabus design. Additionally School faculty discussed different approaches to teaching the history of Islam as well as its relationship and differences from other religions; discussed different approaches to teaching Islamic thought and Islamic law; and analyzed the role of education as it is developed in the Quran.
